CryptoFruit NFT Interview
Author : Conward Swift
Hello, this is Conward with Crypto Loops and host of The Cardano Convo Podcast, available on YouTube, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and wherever podcasts are available.
Today, we will be summarizing a recent interview we conducted with Joe Hurles, founder of the NFT project CryptoFruit. For the full interview video Click Here or follow the YouTube link below!
Cryptofruits is a nifty Cardano NFT (CNFT) project that aims to provide a bit of fun and memes to the CNFT community! Make sure to check out their links at the bottom of the page!
Conward: Hello Joe, it’s nice to have you on the show, and thank you for taking the time to talk with us today and answer a few questions about the work you’ve been doing with CryptoFruits!
Joe: Hey! Thanks for having me.
Conward: So, there are a couple of questions that I always ask. To begin, could you tell us a little bit about yourself—your background, what drew you into crypto in general…?
Joe: I’m Joe, age 32 and my day job is a luxury bathroom designer. I have a wife and 3 children and live near to London, England. My background is a mixture of technology & art. I studied graphic design at college, and all my jobs in the past have either been graphic or technology-based.
I’ve always wanted to be an artist. In the past, I came close to publishing a children’s book. I’ve done sign writing and all sorts, but up till now, I’ve never taken the leap into full fledged art.
Like anyone, I found crypto through various articles on technology news pages. I went through the same process too. I found Bitcoin. Then I went on to Ethereum, and finally, I stumbled into altcoins including Cardano.
Conward: Could you give our audience an explanation of what CryptoFruits are and where they originated from?
Joe: The story goes, I had been amazed by the explosion of NFT art back in February this year. Once I saw and understood it, I knew that NFTs were that perfect blend of tech and art that I’d been looking for. But, I didn’t know what my subject should be. While telling everyone in my workplace for the 50th time what NFTs were, I made the example that you could in theory draw a banana and sell it on the internet. Nobody believed me, so that’s exactly what I did. I made a 3D banana, posted it on CNFT.io, and it sold almost immediately. I had found my subject, and Cryptofruits were born.
Conward: There are a lot of different blockchains to choose from when creating an NFT Project. What were the deciding factors that made you decide to build CryptoFruits on Cardano?
Joe: Ultimately, the aim of Cryptofruits is, for me, to get my name out there as an artist. Furthermore, it is meant to allow a gateway for people, without huge capital, to enter into the market of NFTs. The thing that upset me most about the NFT scene, especially on Ethereum, was that it was a “millionaires playground”, and the gas fees on Ethereum exacerbated this.
When I found Cardano, I saw an opportunity to create work that was lower in price. Not just less expensive to make, but it was less expensive to move around. Cardano’s blockchain would allow me to create something that anyone could get involved with. Even if they were new to blockchain with little capital to begin with.
Conward: Is it difficult being the sole developer of this project?
Joe: Incredibly! My wife helps out a ton, especially with some of the artwork as she is very talented herself. But, I’m a father of 3 children with a full time job and a new NFT project! There is a huge amount of work involved that requires a large time investment. Even just in rendering the frames for the pieces themselves. But, though it’s time consuming, it’s very rewarding and something I want to grow and expand on for many years to come.
Conward: I noticed that many of the NFTs are Bananas, but do you have plans for other fruits?
Joe: Yes! This is the first series, the POP series. Each series will contain at least 6 fruits. In this series, there will be bananas, eggplants, apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lemons. Each fruit, within the series, will have 17 silvers (common), 3 golds (rare), and 5 completely unique pieces per fruit. This means that the POP series will contain around 150 NFTs.

Rare Pop Series CryptoFruit Banana.
Conward: I’ve heard that you will be producing an eggplant series for CryptoFruits. Do you intend to branch out into non-fruits as well, or will the main focus be on fruits?
Joe: I’ve had all sorts of requests. Eggplants weren’t part of the original lineup, but too may people asked for them! I’ve also had requests for eggs, but fruits and vegetables are the limit. I can’t see that changing.
Conward: This has been super informative, and I really appreciate you taking the time to chat today. Before we go, how can listeners get involved with what you’re doing, or how can people best support you and your team?
Joe: Please get involved with our Twitter, Telegram, and soon our website. It’s not ripe just yet, and it won’t be live for about a week.
This interview is made possible by our Patreons and delegators to LOOPS pool!
